Trip Description

This high-altitude journey through the heart of the Himalaya offers a deep immersion into Nepal’s most legendary mountain landscapes. Following ancient Sherpa trails, the route winds through dramatic valleys, glacial lakes, and sacred monasteries, reaching the iconic Everest Base Camp region and the spectacular Gokyo Valley. Towering peaks such as Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu dominate the horizon, while suspension bridges, pine forests, and stone-built villages shape each day on the trail. This trek is as much about the rhythm of mountain life and cultural encounters as it is about raw alpine beauty.

DAY 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you are welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is dedicated to rest and preparation. A short briefing introduces the trekking route, altitude considerations, and daily rhythm of the journey ahead. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 2 – Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Early in the morning, you board a short yet unforgettable flight to Lukla, perched high in the mountains. After meeting the trekking team, the walk begins along the Dudh Kosi River demonstrating a gentle pace for the first day of hiking. After several hours of walking, you reach Phakding, where you settle into a mountain lodge for the night.

DAY 3 – Phakding to Namche Bazaar

The trail gradually ascends through dense forests, crossing several suspension bridges high above the river. Passing through villages such as Manjo, you enter Sagarmatha National Park, a protected area dedicated to the Everest region. The final ascent toward Namche Bazaar is demanding but rewarding, and on clear days the first glimpse of Mount Everest appears in the distance. Namche, the main Sherpa settlement, is nestled in a natural amphitheater surrounded by peaks. Overnight in Namche.

DAY 4 – Acclimatization in Namche

This day is devoted to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to altitude. A hike leads to the villages of Khunde and Khumjung, offering wide views over the Khumbu Valley and surrounding mountains. Khumjung, the largest village in the region, reflects traditional Sherpa life. After lunch, you return to Namche for a relaxed afternoon. Overnight in Namche.

DAY 5 – Namche to Phortse Tanga

Leaving Namche, the trail follows a quieter path through high ridges and valleys. The route and views of the Dudh Kosi River far below create a sense of remoteness. The day ends at Phortse Tanga, a peaceful settlement surrounded by alpine scenery. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 6 – Phortse Tanga to Machhermo

The ascent continues through forested slopes before opening onto panoramic views of Cho Oyu. The landscape grows more rugged as altitude increases. Arrival in Machhermo, a small village set amid stark Himalayan scenery. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 7 – Machhermo to Gokyo Valley

The trail climbs steadily toward the Gokyo Valley, passing glacial terrain and open slopes. As you approach Gokyo, turquoise lakes appear, reflecting the surrounding peaks. Overnight in Gokyo.

DAY 8 – Gokyo Valley Exploration

An early morning ascent leads to Gokyo Ri, offering one of the finest mountain panoramas in the Himalaya. After descending, there is time to explore the valley further. Overnight in Gokyo.

DAY 9 – Gokyo Valley to Dzonglha via Cho La Pass

This is one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. The route descends past the lower lakes before climbing toward the Cho La Pass. The ascent is steep and demanding, crossing rocky terrain and icy sections. From the top of the pass, the views are dramatic and remote. The descent passes frozen lakes and rugged landscapes before reaching Dzonglha. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 10 – Dzonglha to Lobuche

The trail continues through high altitude terrain toward Lobuche. Walking time is moderate, allowing time to rest and explore the surrounding landscape. The mountains feel closer here, with glaciers and moraine fields shaping the path. Overnight in Lobuche.

DAY 11 – Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp

Walking alongside the Khumbu Glacier, the trail leads to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. After a short rest, the journey continues toward the legendary base camp itself. The terrain is rugged and slow going, with shifting glacier paths and rocky ground. Standing at Everest Base Camp, surrounded by icefalls and towering peaks, is a powerful and unforgettable moment. Overnight in Gorak Shep.

DAY 12 – Kala Patthar and Descent to Pheriche

Before dawn, a climb to Kala Patthar offers one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Himalaya. As the sun rises, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam are bathed in golden light. After descending to Gorak Shep, the trail continues down through Lobuche and Dhugla toward Pheriche, where the air feels noticeably warmer and easier to breathe. Overnight in Pheriche.

DAY 13 – Pheriche to Tengboche

The trail winds through villages, crossing rivers and passing prayer walls and monasteries. The walk to Tengboche is especially scenic, with sweeping views of Ama Dablam and surrounding peaks. Tengboche is home to one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the region, set on a ridge overlooking the valley. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 14 – Tengboche to Namche

Descending through forests of pine and rhododendron, the path passes small villages and open viewpoints. The scenery changes gradually as altitude decreases, with lush vegetation returning. Arrival back in Namche marks a return to familiar surroundings. Overnight in Namche.

DAY 15 – Namche to Lukla

The final trekking day follows the river valley back through forests and villages. The descent is long but steady, retracing earlier paths through Phakding and surrounding settlements. Arrival in Lukla brings a sense of completion and celebration after days in the high mountains. Overnight in Lukla.

DAY 16 – Lukla to Kathmandu

After breakfast, a morning flight returns you to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you transfer to your hotel and enjoy free time to rest or explore the city at your own pace. Overnight in Kathmandu.

DAY 17 – Kathmandu

The morning is free for relaxation or last minute shopping. In the afternoon, you visit Swayambhunath, known as the Monkey Temple, one of the oldest and most revered Buddhist sites in the valley. From its hilltop location, it offers sweeping views over Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.
