Annapurna Community Trek

Kathmandu, Nepal 9 Days - 8 Nights Group: According To Need

Trip Description

The Annapurna Community Trek offers a rare and deeply human experience in the heart of the Himalayas. Far from crowded trails, this journey unfolds at a gentle pace through terraced farmland, rhododendron forests, and mountain villages where daily life has changed little over generations. Encounters with farmers, yak herders, and local families shape the rhythm of the walk, creating moments of genuine connection rather than fleeting observation. At Mohare Hill, rising to 3,300 meters, the reward is unforgettable: vast Himalayan panoramas stretch across the horizon, revealing the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and the iconic Machhapuchhare. This trek is not only about landscapes, but about people, traditions, and shared moments in one of Nepal’s most beautiful and authentic regions.

DAY 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, where you are welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to recover from the journey and take in the first impressions of Nepal’s lively capital. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 2 – Kathmandu to Pokhara by Air

After breakfast, a short flight takes you from the Kathmandu Valley to Pokhara. During the journey, the Himalayan peaks begin to appear, hinting at the days ahead. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Pokhara is known for its relaxed atmosphere, shimmering lakes, and dramatic mountain backdrop. Phewa Lake reflects the silhouettes of Machhapuchhare and the Annapurna range, creating a peaceful setting that invites quiet walks and reflection. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 3 – Pokhara to Bas Kharka via Galeshwor

Leaving Pokhara, you travel by road to Galeshwor through Beni, a journey of around three hours. From there, the trek begins with a gradual ascent toward Bas Kharka. The trail winds through farmland, forest paths, and orange groves as stone steps rise and fall with the terrain. Along the way, there may be time to visit a local school or health post, and between November and December, ripe oranges are often shared straight from the trees. Upon arrival in Bas Kharka, sweeping views open across the surrounding hills, and on clear days, the distant outlines of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri emerge on the horizon.

DAY 4 – Bas Kharka to Nangi

Today’s walk takes around two to three hours and leads steadily uphill. The trail passes through dense rhododendron forest before opening into gentler valleys. A scenic spot provides a perfect pause for lunch, surrounded by mountain air and silence. The walk then continues toward Nangi, the main village of the area, where you settle in for the night. In the village, you can visit small local workshops, including community initiatives where villagers produce handmade paper using plants grown in the surrounding hills.

DAY 5 – Nangi to Mohare Hill

The ascent continues through forested paths toward Mohare Hill. As altitude is gained, the views grow wider and more dramatic. Reaching the summit at 3,300 meters is a defining moment of the trek. On clear days, the panorama includes Machhapuchhare, Annapurna, and the massive face of Dhaulagiri. Yaks may be seen grazing nearby, adding to the sense of remoteness. Mohare Hill is also home to one of Nepal’s highest wireless internet relay stations, a quiet symbol of how remote villages remain connected to schools, health posts, and hospitals in Kathmandu through modern technology.

DAY 6 – Mohare Hill to Sikha

Early morning brings a spectacular sunrise as the Himalayan peaks slowly glow with first light. Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri I and II, Tukuche, the southern Annapurnas, and Nilgiri form an unforgettable skyline. After breakfast, the trail descends gently through lush rhododendron forest. The national flower of Nepal blooms here alongside oak, bamboo, and diverse mountain vegetation. The walk is peaceful and rich in natural detail as you make your way toward Sikha.

DAY 7 – Sikha to Narchyang

On the final trekking day, the path continues downhill through pastoral landscapes and fertile fields. The scenery is open and welcoming, with green terraces stretching toward the valley floor. Arrival at Narchyang brings a warm welcome at a community homestay, where lunch is prepared by local families. Narchyang is a Magar village set at the foot of the Annapurna range. The Magar people are known for their strong traditions, simple way of life, and quiet hospitality. After settling in, a short walk leads to the nearby Narchyang waterfall, cascading dramatically just across from the village.

DAY 8 – Narchyang to Pokhara

The day begins with a home-cooked breakfast prepared by your host family. A short walk through the village offers insight into daily life, with homes surrounded by vegetable gardens and fields that provide most of the food consumed locally. Mountains still dominate the view, close and imposing. Later, you travel by road back to Pokhara along the Beni–Jomsom highway, following the powerful Kali Gandaki River. The remainder of the day is free to rest, explore Pokhara, or stroll along the lakeside. Overnight at the hotel.

DAY 9 – Pokhara to Kathmandu by Air

After breakfast, a return flight brings you back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free, depending on your onward travel plans. Transfer to the airport according to your international flight schedule, marking the end of a journey shaped by mountains, villages, and meaningful encounters in the Annapurna region.
